Diablo 4 Season 15 brings significant buffs to Warlock class, and one of the standout playstyles currently seen on PTR is Blazing Scream. During the testing phase, this build demonstrated the ability to rapidly clear Pit 150, boasting an incredibly high damage ceiling.
Of course, PTR data doesn’t perfectly reflect the live servers. In particular, certain interactions involving Splinter of the Black Soulstone and Demon Kill mechanics clearly leave room for future adjustments.
However, based on core synergies involving Elegy, Archfiend, Hellfire, and Flesh of Abaddon, IGGM.com believes that even if it faces nerfs in Season 15, Blazing Scream has a strong chance of becoming a mainstream choice for Warlock players. It is also well-suited for transitioning from the early-game starter phase into mid-to-late-game configurations.
Why Is Blazing Scream So Strong?
In Diablo 4 Season 15, the core item for this build is Elegy.
Blazing Scream consists of a primary attack and weaker, smaller Skulls. Elegy transforms this into an Archfiend skill while massively empowering Skull variant, allowing the smaller Skulls to deal damage levels comparable to the main skill.
Small Skulls – originally intended merely for supplementary damage – become a primary source of damage thanks to the bonuses provided by Elegy.
Archfiend tag further unlocks synergies with Infernal Homunculus, allowing Blazing Scream to simultaneously benefit from numerous Lesser Demon skill effects.
In short, Elegy not only boosts the direct damage of Skulls but also integrates the entire Archfiend and Lesser Demon systems. Without it, the mechanical cohesion and damage output of Blazing Scream build would drop significantly.
Infernal Homunculus and Lesser Demon
Archfiend tag granted by Elegy does more than just increase Blazing Scream’s damage; it activates the full suite of Lesser Demon synergies associated with Infernal Homunculus.
While continuously casting Blazing Scream, effects such as Vulnerable, resource regeneration, Volatility, and Slow are triggered automatically.
Season 15 players won’t need to expend much extra effort maintaining these buffs and crowd-control effects; the main skill itself handles damage output, resource cycling, and utility simultaneously.
This also means the resource demands for Blazing Scream are much lower than they appear on the surface. Even without Tibault’s Will or Starless for the time being, the build’s inherent rotation is sufficient to sustain continuous damage output.
Once Season 15 goes live and progression resets, if you’re missing key gear, you can buy cheap Diablo 4 items to speed up your setup and get into Pit and Boss farming sooner.
Hellfire and Volatility Damage Multipliers
Another source of massive damage scaling for Blazing Scream comes from the synergy between Hellfire and Volatility.
Since this build naturally incorporates multiple Hellfire skills, it is easy to fully maximize the damage bonus provided by Moloch’s Beating Flame. In a standard setup, five relevant skills are enough to provide a very substantial damage multiplier.
Theoretically, Diablo 4 players could forgo Nether Step to slot in a sixth Hellfire skill in pursuit of maximum damage, but the actual gain is not significant enough to justify the trade-off.
Based on the build strategy from IGGM.com, retaining the mobility provided by Nether Step is more practical than squeezing out a bit more damage, especially during map clearing and boss encounters.
Best Supporting Uniques
Aside from Elegy, the other Unique items serve primarily to improve gameplay feel, resource management, and late-game potential; not every single Diablo 4 item is strictly mandatory from the start.
The main value of Tibault’s Will lies in making consecutive casts of Blazing Scream feel smoother, but it is not a hard requirement. Even without this item, the resource regeneration provided by Starless or Lesser Demon allows the build to function effectively.
The utility of Fists of Fate depends heavily on the specific game version. Mythic version is the one truly worth keeping long-term; the boost from the standard Unique version isn’t critical, and that gear slot can often be better utilized by a more practical Aspect.
Leoric’s Crown is better suited for late-game Season 15 configurations. Its synergy with Splinter of the Black Soulstone boosts both survivability and damage output, making it a key choice for pushing the build’s limits once the core gear is established.
Therefore, IGGM.com recommends prioritizing Elegy and gear that supports the resource rotation before considering these other Uniques for your late-game setup.
Best Splinter of the Black Soulstone
Compared to other Season 15 items, Splinter of the Black Soulstone has a more direct impact on Blazing Scream, though different choices address different needs.
If the goal is to maximize raw damage output, Splinter of Anguish is the best fit for this critical-hit-focused build.
It provides Critical Strike Chance and Attack Speed – stats that Blazing Scream thrives on – though you must ensure the increased Primary Resource cost doesn’t disrupt your skill rotation.
Splinter of Pain leans more toward survivability. For setups requiring prolonged Demon Form uptime, the additional Damage Reduction significantly eases the pressure when tackling high-tier content.
In Season 15 PTR, the small skulls generated by Blazing Scream count as Demon Kills, making it very easy to rapidly stack the bonus damage provided by Splinter of the Black Soulstone.
However, this is precisely where the issue lies. The benefits of this synergy were exceptionally high on PTR, so it remains to be seen whether it will make it to the live servers unchanged.
Flesh of Abaddon and Demon Form
In the endgame, core items like Flesh of Abaddon truly begin to dictate the damage rhythm of Blazing Scream.
This build does not reach peak damage the moment combat begins.
Upon entering Demon Form, the character must first accumulate Infernal Hunger and then convert it into Demonic Strength by attacking Elites or Bosses; Blazing Scream then leverages its Hellfire property to further amplify damage during this phase.
Consequently, it is normal for damage to be slightly lower during the opening seconds of a high-tier Pit run or Boss fight. The build typically requires a ramp-up period of about 5 to 10 seconds to reach its full potential.
For this reason, the primary challenge for an endgame setup isn’t achieving a single burst of damage, but rather maintaining Demon Form as consistently as possible.
Stat Priority
Regarding stats, the priority is to reach 100% Critical Strike Chance, followed by stacking Critical Strike Damage and Attack Speed.
For skill ranks, focus on Hellfire Skill Ranks, All Skill Ranks, Demonology Skill Ranks, and Core Skill Ranks.
Defensive stats should not be overlooked either; ensure you have sufficient Life, Resistances, and Armor. In Season 15, the buffed Secondary Resistances provide more significant damage reduction, so don’t focus solely on offensive stats when gearing up for the endgame.
Even if the synergy between Splinter of the Black Soulstone and Demon Kill gets nerfed, the core mechanics of Blazing Scream build are already powerful enough on their own.
